Explore Ontario’s Greenbelt

I grew up in the country. The first home I remember was surrounded by farmers’ fields – cows grazing, haygrass blowing in the wind. I became a city dweller many (many) (ssshh) years ago. And I’ve always loved the city. But even in the middle of the bustle, I’ve always sought out green space. I love the energy of the city, but finding a green oasis or even getting completely out into the country reminds me:  being constantly surrounded by people and concrete is disconnected from what actually keeps us alive. Fields growing food. Animals grazing. Watersheds cleaning away the toxins we spew in to them every day. Vast forests scrubbing clean the air we breathe. (more…)

On May 24, you’ll be able to find out if you take a little road trip through the greater GTA countryside and participate in the Farm Crawl Hamilton. (Aside: In my young and single days, pub crawls were one of my favourite ways to lose a weekend.
